Setting up Thanksgiving kid style

Over the weekend I was watching Martha Stewart set up her all white Thanksgiving table with crystal champaign glasses, ghost pumpkins, and crisp clean table settings. All I could think to myself is how awful the kids must feel if they were to attend this feast. There would definitely be a kids table set aside for the little ones in this situation.

This is a day that we are supposed to be Thankful, not sit there and pretend to be pristine and proper. This is a day to embrace our children and what we are thankful for. This is a time to bring the entire family together, not set them aside in a different section.

Thanksgiving should be a time to join with each other and get crafty. This year we’re doing it kids friendly.

Get the Kids are in the kitchen! Time to bake those green bean casseroles, make pumpkin pies, and set the table. There are tons of foods that the kids can get involved in preparing.

Let’s not forget the table settings. What a better way to get together than to roll out a big piece of butcher paper across the table and break out the box of crayola’s. Have the children write down on the paper what they are thankful for.

If you pick up a few pumpkins at the local grocery store, and purchase some in-expensive paint and a few paint brushes, you can have the kids paint turkeys, indians and pilgrims on the pumpkins for center piece decorations.

With the paper and crayons out, you can also suggest they make pilgrim and Indian head pieces. With a stapler, some scissors, crayons, and butcher paper, there is a great deal of fun the kids could have.

So this year let’s not cut the kids short, but instead get them involved in being apart of the group to bring the whole family together.
