Costume Contest
So you’re trying to arrange a costume contest and you’re looking for ideas. That’s very smart considering that arranging a costume contest seems harmless but a lot of planning goes into a successful one.
Here are some tips for having your best costume contest ever.
1. Determine the type of costume party
Will you require that all of your guests participate? Will you have guests sign up to participate? Are numerous categories available? (categories- scariest, most gruesome, funniest, most original, most offensive, cutest, and best costume) Include the details in your invitation.
2. Who will judge your costume contest?
Choose an odd number of judges and stay out of the judging if your party has less than 30 people or you will moderate.
3. Set a start timeĀ
Set the time later in the night so guests have a reason to stay and party. Add these details in your invitation.
4. Select a location
Select a location at your party where the contest will take place. Choose a large area.
5. Determine the actions of the judges.
Will you call up a category and the judges determine the winner by guest’s applause? Do the judges walk around the party, decide who their favorites are, and announce later? Do the contestants for the category come up on stage and the judges vote on an individual scale system?
6. Too shy to moderate?
Hire a DJ or ask a boisterous friend to moderate the costume contest. Be sure to check out the DJ section in our business directory for your area.
7. Provide a microphone for the moderator.
If you don’t have one, consider renting a sound system from your local audio/visual center. You can find them in our business directory. If you don’t find one in our directory, please tell the business about us. Wink, wink…
8. Give prizes.
Perhaps a trophy for best costume, ribbons for runners up, and a small gift for the other participants. Something like a secret decoder ring.
