• A Baby Shower Idea for the Anxiety-Ridden Mum-to-Be

    • Are you excited about having a baby, but terrified of the attention that you'll be getting over the next few months--especially the baby shower. You might have Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD). SAD or social phobia, is an anxiety disorder in which a person has an excessive and unreasonable fear of social situations. If this is you, you're not alone.

SAD is one of the most common mental disorders, and those who have it have difficulty in one or more of the following areas:
* Eating or drinking in front of others
*Writing or working in front of others
*Being the center of attention
*Interacting with people (like at a baby shower!)
*Asking questions or giving reports in groups
*Using public toilets
*Talking on the telephone

The symptoms resemble panic attacks, something you definitely don't want in the middle of an event where you're the guest of honour. The good news is there are therapies to help, but you can't put your pregnancy on hold while you get therapy. Here's a solution that lets your family and friends celebrate you and the baby without causing you unnecessary stress.

"Reverse" baby showers have become a solution for parents-to-be who live far away from family and friends, so getting everyone in the same room for a shower isn't possible. Here's how it works...

Family and friends are invited to your shower at a location convenient for them. Someone hosts the proceedings, which are recorded (though now, the host should be able to stream it live via the Internet.) If you have a baby-gift registry, they should be able to access it no matter where they are.

Decorations are optional, refreshments are served, baby shower favours thank the guests for coming, and the highlight of the event is the presentation of gifts. Everyone brings their gift unwrapped and tells why they got this particular gift. One of the shower games is a wrapping contest to see who can wrap his or her present the most creatively, so the host needs to have wrapping paper, ribbons and other baby-gift wrapping accessories.

When the event is over, the video is sent to you along with the presents. You and the happy dad-to-be get to experience the shower in the privacy of your own home and unwrap the gifts (giving you a visual of whom gave you which gift and why) as a couple.

A reverse baby shower is a terrific way to keep you stress-free while family and friends have a good time showering you and your baby with gifts--and love! party
