   • Adult BBQ birthday!

     A birthday party should always be exciting. Easy said than done of course. How about a mixed culture(partners from different cultural background) birthday party?
     For a birthday party in July, we chose a barbecue event as basis. We hope for a good weather but prepare contingency activities as well.
     First, the attire is casual in summer. Dresses could be wet.
     Second, decoration is child friendly for a family and friends event.
     Third, prepare colored plates and glasses, melamine or porselane plates. Prepare some finger foods and place them in strategic places ahead of time. Pasta was done before and only needs to be heated up. Salad was mixed and cooled in the refrigerator.
     Serve drinks within 15 minutes upon the arrival of guests. Serve cake when desired.
     Begin to set the tone of the event with a happy birthday song in 2-3 languages. that can serve as souvenirs ready and placed near the front door. Have the prepared printed songs Thank the guests for coming ang singing. Have a back up music or musicians(practiced with friends) accompanied by the computer/internet.
     Games should be coupled with food rewards so as to make it interesting for kids when outnumbered by adults. A simple tic-tac-toe with an adult as opponent should be fun for kids. Basketball with soft balls so as not to break glasses. Musical chair. Musical paper dance. Chips, candy bags or small gifts as rewards.
     Begin to heat soup. Serve around 5 pm. Turn on the oven. Heat up the side dishes such as stuffed vegetables. Prepare vegetarian foods for health conscious guests.
     Begin the BBQ at 6pm. Main dish is served and relaxed eating has begon until 8pm. Serve dessert at 7pm so that family with small children can go home on time. Take group pictures. Karaoke or WII sports commence after eating. Koffie is served at 9pm. Music or parlor games can be adjusted for the remaining number of guests. Guest can leave or stay until 12pm or until it is over.
     Remember to take photos around every hour. Guest come and go at different times. Ask a close friend to host some of the games so as to have time to talk to all guests.
     Have a succesful, fun filled day!
