Get a Taste of Christmas this Holiday Season
-
‘Tis the season to be jolly and make merry, for Christmas is almost here! It’s time to start thinking about getting that Christmas tree home and decking it up with festoons and confetti, time to brush up on those Christmas carols, time to buy and wrap those presents. And if you’ve been good throughout the year, you might as well hang the stockings because Santa might be coming with some presents for you too! The festive fervor is in the air and everything feels good. Bringing in Christmas this year is going to be magical.
So why limit the magic to yourself? After all, Christmas is all about spreading the joy, isn’t it? How about you throw a Christmas party at your home this year, call up a few friends, whip up some Christmas goodies and make a memorable event out of it? Christmas specials are always welcome. The buzz and the excitement in the atmosphere transfers you to a different land altogether where even the impossible seems possible and believing in fairy tales and fables is all you want to do. And what better way to spread the cheer than with some good fun, good music and dance, good food, and good people!
Food has always united people. It brings people together from everywhere and makes them feel like they have something in common – the love for it! It is an important part of any celebration and Christmas is no different. Be it the mulled wine or the homemade cinnamon buns or the casseroles or the roasted chestnuts, every aspect of each dish is crucial for Christmas to be complete. It is jokingly said that in some homes the eating and celebrating begins with Thanksgiving and ends with New Year, wherein people make the most of savoring the yummy treats starting Thanksgiving and later coming up with New Year resolutions to rid of the piled up pounds.
We all know Christmas is unimaginable without the quintessential Christmas cakes and puddings and eggnog and what not! It’s all about food that not just fills the stomach, but about food that looks inviting and creates warmth in your heart, the flavors that soothe the spirit. It’s about the food that complements the season as well as the generosity of the festive spirit. From the cocktails to the main course to the dessert, everything has it’s special place and no one can afford to miss out on any of these. Everyone has their favorite holiday food.
Christmas Food
The typical food associated with Christmas can be anything from mince meat pies to mashed potatoes to green bean casseroles. Sea-food also seems to be gaining increasing popularity as a Christmas favorite, rather than roast meat and ham, in places where the weather is warmer. The important thing to remember is to have something for everyone to make it a memorable holiday for one and all. Kickstarting the festivities with generous helpings of Christmas candy canes, cookies and eggnog have been a favorite tradition over the decades. Some of the traditional favorites that make the main course include traditional Christmas roasts and other preparations made from meats like ham, chicken, turkey and seafood. Cold sauces are an absolute must-have side dish in warmer regions, besides vegetables and salads. Once the main course is finished, it’s time for the sweet treats to come in. Some of the most favorite desserts eaten during Christmas are plum cake, fruit cake, puddings, pavlova, pie, trifle, meringues and the list can go on. So indulge your sweet-tooth and let sweet thoughts fill your mind.
Christmas and Wine!
What is it about fine wine and Christmas that the two always go hand-in-hand? Maybe it’s the taste, maybe it’s the warmth. Whatever it is, wine is a must-have drink during Christmas. It is always great to have a good selection of drinks to spend the Christmas evening with friends and family. Some people may prefer Christmas cocktails. A bottle of homemade wine or a collection of vintage wine is something that everyone would just love to indulge in along with the delicious Christmas food. A good wine also adds an element of decadence to the Christmas meal. Some of the wines associated with Christmas are Pinot Noir, Barbera, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Zinfandel.
Christmas Hampers
It makes sense to have Christmas hampers around this season, not just for your own use but also to be able to gift something to close friends and family. The hampers can contain whatever you like – fun food, drinks, recipes, chocolates, flowers and even ingredients to prepare Christmas dishes. Christmas hampers are a good gifting idea as they save your time and energy since they are easy to shop for - you could just order them online instead of waiting in long queues at shops. They already come gift wrapped and hence, once again save you a lot of time and spare you a good amount of stress. A good option to consider!
The Christmas spirit
It’s not just the decorations and background music that make a wonderful Christmas holiday, it is also the food that is laid on the table. And by food, I don’t mean how much time was spent in the kitchen to cook it, but how much heart was put into what has been cooked – that’s the secret behind all those memorable Christmas holidays you’ve had all these years! Ultimately, holidays are all about making people feel welcome and at ease, it’s about bringing people together, even those who haven’t been able to keep in touch during the year for some reason or another. When you invite someone to your home, you are investing in a time of merriment for not just now, but also for the future – like a tradition! So remember to keep the Christmas magic alive with good cheer, food and merriment all around you and write your own fabulous Christmas story.
