Treasure Hunt Beach Theme Party
-
By Jen Carter
A treasure hunt party is something that can be enjoyed by anyone regardless of age if it is designed accordingly. While it is always a great fun for kids, even grown-ups can share the excitement of hunting for the hidden treasure. A treasure hunt party can be organized at your home, a nearby park, or the local beach. The beach will certainly be the best option because of its huge open space.
A treasure hunt beach party can be made special in various ways. The first step, of course, is invitation. Choosing a theme like this, you are certainly not expected to visit your local stationery shop and buy some boring, all-too-familiar cards. Make the card as exciting as the theme. A treasure map with a secret code, for example. If you are going to deliver the invitations personally, go three-dimensional by putting the note in a bottle. A good start to the hunting expedition! It’s now time to choose the party favors. Do this keeping the theme in mind. The best favors, on an occasion like this, must be bandanas, hats, flashlights, magnifying glasses, compasses and even binoculars. If there are pirates in the script, have eye patches, tattoos and pirate hats as well. While decorating, a few streamers and a banner will do for small kids. If your guests are a little older, use Halloween skeletons and fake cobwebs around the place where the treasure is buried. It should create the desired effect.
For the treasure hunt, you can choose between two activities: scavenger hunt and treasure dig. While the first is perfectly suitable for older children, the second should be more attractive for younger kids. This will be a great activity for older kids. For scavenger hunt, divide the participants into two or three groups and give them the list of items that are to be found. The team that finds all the items first is declared the winner. Or, they may be asked to locate a single item using clues or puzzles hidden in different areas.
Treasure dig is more of an outdoor activity, so the local beach should be a fine venue. Hide items like plastic coins, shells, action figures, beaded necklaces and real coins inside a large sand box and ask the kids to find them with plastic shovels and pails. And just watch how they get involved in the job! How can a party be a hit without good food? For a treasure hunt party, fun foods may include pizza, fruit kabobs, cake or cupcakes decorated with edible “treasure” (chocolate gold coins, jewel colored candies) or treasure chest cake.Jen is owner of My Wedding Blog, a free wedding planner for bride and groom.
