    • Thanksgiving away at college

    • Many college students go home for the holidays to visit their friends and family. With Thanksgiving being smack dab at the end of the semester, not all students have the luxury of flying back to be with their folks. The day is open for you to spend time with the new founded family you have created over the year, and share what you are thankful for without having the folks around.

Definitely ring mom and pop’s before setting out for your Thanksgiving shin dig, but definitely don’t dwell and stay trapped in your dorm or small apartment this year.

Thanksgiving doesn’t have to involve the turkey and mashed potatoes. Get together with some friends and decided what you are thankful for.

Step 1:

Gather your friends that are not going home for the Thanksgiving holiday and ask them if they would like to have a party.

Step 2:

Discuss with your friends their “favorite” thing about Thanksgiving. This can be tradition or foods. 1-2 favorites should be implemented per person. Does your friend Sandy love her mom’s green bean casserole? Then have her get the recipe and make it to share with the group. You can even have a "my mom makes the best stuffing" contest and have friends bring their take on moms homemade stuffing.

Step 3:

Don’t be afraid to step out of the tradition. Whatever you enjoy doing with your friends, go for it. Add a little spice to your party however you would like. Bring the alcohol, hang Christmas lights, rent some movies, etc. Make this your day to enjoy what you are thankful for.

Second from family, I am Thankful for my friends and the time I spend with them. This year don’t stay home tucked away, but instead enjoy it with those you care about. party
