• Anti-Bridal Shower Bachelorette Party

    • This bachelorette party idea was brought to you by: Mariana Leung of Weng Meng Design Studio

I am a fashion and event designer in NYC. When it came time for my sister's nuptials, I knew I could not let her leave the single world without a bang. I knew her future mother-in-law had planned a large-scale, tea-and-finger-sandwiches affair for her in her hometown of Toronto. I wanted to give her the opposite... an unladylike, bawdy but stylish bash.

Bright red invitations went out to her girlfriends to spend a weekend in NYC at my home in Northern Manhattan. They were informed to bring high heels and an appetite.

The ladies were met with champagne at the door.

As the entertainment "surprise", I hired a skilled and artistic burlesque performer to teach the ladies classic and sexy moves. Each guest was also outfitted with feather boas and cosmetics in their giftbags. The guest of honor received pasties from Britisth lingerie house, Agent Provocateur.

After each guest gave their performance, (to the delight of neighbors across the courI had the top BBQ restaurant in the city cater huge portions of greasy messy ribs, macaroni and cheese, cornbread. For dessert, giant red velvet cupcakes. I ordered double in anticipation of late night kitchen-raiding.

After the dinner, was the 'talent' competition. I set up a large bar with a large range of liquors, and a wide selection of garnishes and fruits. The guests were asked to participate in a cocktail competition to be judged by the bride. The winner won a designer handbag and would be required to provide the recipe and mix their cocktail for all the guests to try. This was a lot of fun as it got competitive, catty and creative.

After everyone was liquored up and fed, we hired a car to take everyone to the Lower East Side to a hot burlesque club to see the top performers of the scene do their thing so they could see how the real dancers do it. Dancing at local clubs followed, until everyone dropped off in exhaustion and were driven back to my home. party
