   • Baby Shower for a second child

     People have actually had the nerve to day, “You can only have a shower for your first baby.”  To that I simply say, “WHY?”  A second child is every bit as special an event to celebrate as a first.  The only difference is, Mom probably already has most of the baby items needed already.  This just calls for a different type of shower.

     Babies can never have enough diapers!!  What about a diaper shower?  Guests each bring a package of diapers as a gift.  The parents will be set for quite a while.

     A pampering shower is another idea.  Mom (and Dad) can definately use some relaxation if they already have one, and another is on the way!!  Gifts can include massage coupons, restaurant gift certificates, babysitting offers, bath oils, candles….

     An “I’m the Big Brother/Sister” Party is also a wonderful idea.  This will help the older sibling be a part of the fun.  If they are old enough, they can invite a few friends their own age over and celebrate this new time in life with them.  The adults can do the regular party stuff, but this makes the first child still feel important.  This could even be a good kind of shower for after the new baby is already born.  Then little brother/sister can introduce the new baby to everyone.  Since the party is supposed to be for the older one, make sure someone is in charge of each child so that the eldest never gets pushed aside.
