shalynnmarie Party idea submitted by shalynnmarie Jan 20th, 2011

    • End of Summer Luau

    • We hold a monthly poker party, each month we do a themed food course. The one for August we decided to AMP it up a lil and throw a full on Luau. We ordered a fully cooked roasted pig from the local butcher.
We sent out invitations with ALOHA themed paper inviting all of our guests and requesting everyone wear Luau inspired clothing.
We set up the "main" luau station under a deck out of the sun as it was very hot.
The guests arrived to ballons and pink flamingos on the lawn. And were greeted with flowered ballons and a large basket filled with their choice of many multi colored Leis, fresh cut large flowers, flower inspired rings & bracelets. We even had tiki women headbands.
We bought a Tiki Hut with lights and set that up. We also stung lights up the whole way around the under side of the deck and then hung grass curtains at the entrance of the hut, Covered all the tables with luau themed tableclothes and then with grass skirts, all of the food containers were based on TIKI men characters.each centerpice was a mini palm tree. we had set out coconut scented candles , pineapples and blow up palm trees to also help set the mood- for the seating areas outside of the "hut" we set up umbrellas covered in grass skirts to give the guests added coolness, and to create fake palm trees, and sprawled out lawn & beach chairs all over the area to create a "beach" We had carved watermelons for the occasion, downloaded all Luau inspired themed music and had it streaming the entire time. We also had a friend bring his guitar & Ukelele and play Tiny Bubbles!
For food we had fares from the roasted pig, to pineapple & cracker dips, apple pototo salad, melon balls and flip flop cakes.
The for the younger guests we had baseball and the slip and slide set up, and we had a small sand box for the kiddies to re enact a beach trip!
The older guests enjoyed drinks of coconut rum & pina colodas amoung other summer inspired drinks
All of the guests enjoyed the Surfer Cutouts , male and female faces- we hung up in the one corner and we had an extra camera to snap the pictures for each guest. we printed out step by step instructions on Hula Dancing. It was quite fun watching the guests try to master the moves
As a ending party favor we gave each guest little bags of coconut flavored M&Ms; party
