BBQ Birthday Smash
This was my own birthday party theme this year. The weather the fall has been absolutely gorgeous, so I took advantage and had an outdoor party. The theme was Southern BBQ. We served spare ribs with 3 different sauces, cole slaw, corn bread, BLT noodle salad and artisan bread with a cream cheese based spread. We had keg beer, boxed wine, pop and water. For dessert I made 4 dozen cupcakes as opposed to a sheet cake. We had 50 people attend at all hours throughout the night, so it was important to have small food that could be prepared fast (spare ribs) and eaten throughout the course of the evening. Having the spare ribs was perfect because they cook fast and are tender without having to boil them ahead of time. Everyone loved the fact that they could graze all night long and the kids went crazy for the cupcakes. A good time was had by all.
